Prof Alp Gurkan
Prof. Alp Gürkan, MD, is a distinguished expert in organ transplantation and general surgery with over three decades of experience. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Ege University in 1981 and completed his specialization in General Surgery at the same institution in 1989. Following his studies, he gained valuable experience at Yale University’s Cardiovascular Surgery Department and at Harvard University’s Women’s and Brigham Hospitals, where he received advanced training in organ transplantation. Prof. Gürkan began his career in transplantation surgery in 1992, when he was tasked with establishing the Organ Transplantation Department at İzmir Tepecik SSK Training and Research Hospital. In 1997, he was promoted to Associate Professor. He made a significant contribution to the field by performing Turkey’s first small bowel transplant in 2003.
