Androgenetic Alopecia
The most common cause of hair loss — male and female pattern baldness. Hair follicles become sensitive to the hormone DHT, causing progressive miniaturisation and thinning in a characteristic pattern.
Causes
- ·Genetic sensitivity of follicles to dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
- ·Family history of pattern baldness.
- ·Age-related hormonal changes.
Symptoms
- ·Receding hairline or thinning crown in men (Norwood pattern).
- ·Widening part and diffuse thinning in women (Ludwig pattern).
- ·Hair becomes progressively finer and shorter.
